Definition

A seasonal work permit authorises non-EU nationals to work in sectors with cyclical labour demand — primarily agriculture, horticulture, and tourism — for a defined season. EU Directive 2014/36/EU harmonises rules across member states, allowing a stay of up to 90 days (extendable to 180 days in some states). Seasonal workers receive equal treatment with nationals regarding wages, working conditions, and health and safety. Employers are typically required to provide proof of accommodation and a work contract before the permit is granted.
