Definition
A TIE is Spain's physical foreigner identity card for non-EU residents. It serves as practical proof of lawful stay and normally contains the holder's biometrics, the type of residence authorisation, and the validity period. The TIE is distinct from the NIE because the NIE is the identification number, while the TIE is the card document issued after the residence process reaches the card stage.
