Definition

A settlement permit is a national permanent-residence status granted after a person has lived lawfully in a country for a required number of years and met conditions such as income, language, accommodation, or integration. It is broader than a temporary residence permit because it is not tied to one employer, one contract, or one short validity period. Different countries use different names for this status, including settlement permit, indefinite leave, permanent residence, or long-term resident permit.
