Definition

A certified translation is a translation of a foreign-language document that includes a formal statement from the translator or translation provider confirming that the translation is accurate and complete. Immigration authorities often require this for passports, civil-status records, diplomas, and police certificates when the originals are not in an accepted language. A certified translation is not always the same as a sworn translation, because different countries recognise different translator credentials.
